The Huygens-Fokker Foundation is located in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam; a visionary building for the 21st century with more than one auditorium, plus rehearsal spaces and offices for ensembles and music organizations, and plenty of room for musicians, composers and audiences! The opening of the building in 2005 marked a special moment, because at last ensembles, composers and makers of music theatre were provided with their own place, in a building with a strong international radiance. The Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ has a fully-equipped medium-sized hall with seating for 735 people and a smaller auditorium (Small Hall) for contemporary and classical repertoire. The Muziekgebouw as a location for the Huygens-Fokker Foundation is important, because now our activities can flourish to the full in an atmosphere of music, art and culture. The presence of the Fokker-organ and a new audience which found their way to the Muziekgebouw, is also important to our foundation.
