March 5, 2023 | Melle Weijters, guitar & Ere Lievonen, Fokker organConcert Fokker organ | 2023-03-05, 11.00 hours | Small Hall - Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, AmsterdamFor guitarist Melle Weijters it has been a long-cherished wish to give a concert with the work of Christiaan Huygens (1629-1695) as a theme. Weijters has already garnered admiration for his playing on microtonal guitars. Now he offers this dream show that leads from the 31-tone system to the science fiction of David Bowie's Space Oddity. The legacy of Christiaan Huygens is not only limited to the 31-tone system. He wrote Cosmotheoros, for example, in which he described life on other planets and in which the 31-tone tuning would be the sound of the universe. This thought resonates in works by Huygens and imaginative minds such as Charles Mingus and Gustav Holst.
