Concert Fokker organ | 2019-01-13 - 11.00 hours | Small Hall - Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Amsterdam
Renaissance & the 21st century
Vokalprojekt 31 is a pioneering ensemble of five vocalists, performing 31-tone music from the Renaissance, early Baroque and the current century. The ensemble is accompanied by Ere Lievonen on the 31-tone organ (or the Fokker organ). Together they perform music in the meantone and 31-tone tuning in a fascinating way, with their goal to perform the unique possibilities of the 31-tone system and the meantone tuning in both old and new music. Again this season, Vokalprojekt 31 guarantees the performance of quirky works from the Renaissance and the 21st century. The 31-tone madrigals of 1555 by the Italian composer Nicola Vicentino should not be missed. This time all four enharmonic madrigals will be sung from this collection, but it should be noted that only one of these madrigals has survived the past centuries completely. A recent extension of the ensemble to five singers has made it possible to perform the brilliant madrigals of Carlo Gesualdo this morning. Besides old vocal music, there is also work of this century, including a beautiful dreamy 31-tone work by composer/lutenist Andreas Arend, entitled 'Faictz ce que vouldras' and the organ work 'Fantazia' by the Finnish composer Olli Virtaperko, who let himself be inspired by the contrapuntal keyboard music from the 17th century. Furthermore, a special adaptation of parts from the beautiful 'Koerikoeloem' by composer Miranda Driessen is on the program, in which electronic sounds complement the ensemble in a mystical way. Come and listen!
