April 8, 2018  |  Ere Lievonen, Fokker organ

Concert Fokker organ | 2018-04-08, 11.00 hours | Small Hall - Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Amsterdam

Ligeti Festival

Especially for this concert Ere Lievonen, the regular player of the Fokker organ, arranged piano and harpsichord works by György Ligeti for the unique 31-tone organ. In addition, the program pays attention to the composer Conlon Nancarrow, who was admired by Ligeti, with his 'Study No. 21' for pianola, which is an unplayable piece for human hands. Using the most modern electronic techniques it is possible to perform the piece directly on the Fokker organ by using a laptop. Furthermore, four parts from the organ work Rrrrrrr... by the famous composer Mauricio Kagel (who was a good acquaintance of György Ligeti) are played. The South Afrian/Irish composer Kevin Volans was inspired by ethnomusicologist Imha Arom, just like Ligeti - in that way there is already a link between these two composers. His work Walking song will be performed. Hans Otte once organized a festival in which (at his request) a work by Ligeti was premiered. So they also knew each other. In short, enough connections to come to a wonderful program that can only be heard this morning. And do not forget: it is of course special that all works will be played in the meantone tuning!
