November 25, 2017 | Bram Stadhouders & Melle Weijters, Fokker organ / guitar
Concert Fokker organ | 2017-11-26, 11.00 hours | Small Hall - Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Amsterdam
Guitarists Bram Stadhouders and Melle Weijters will alternately, but also jointly, play the Fokker organ via their guitar and laptops. Stadhouders, known in the Netherlands for his idiosyncratic guitar playing, will mainly focus on his characteristic enervating improvisations, in which he controls the organ in a magnificent way with his MIDI guitar. Weijters, who is an initiate in microtonal music, will focus on new microtonal applications in jazz and blues, using an electric guitar and software to communicate with the 31-tone organ. Bram Stadhouders studied electronic music in Utrecht and composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has a lot of experience with playing an organ via his guitar. He improvised live on barrel organ The Busy Drone in the Orgelpark in Amsterdam and composed for the biggest transportable dance-organ in the world, The Rhapsody. Melle Weijters studied jazz guitar at the conservatory of Maastricht and has been devoting himself for years to fretless and microtonal guitars. He has already controlled/played the Fokker organ via guitar in both 2014 and 2016, where, among other things, he improvised with chords by Adriaan Fokker, and played his own composition Duellin' The Meantone Blues; a work that will be performed again during this concert. The differences in approach between the two gentlemen will also be presented in a joint improvisation in which they engage in a musical battle.
