Boem Boe Bali! |

Gamelan is characteristic of the Indonesian classical music. 31-tone music is a typical Dutch invention that has been developed in The Netherlands. The 31-tone tuning of the Fokker-organ has possibilities to play exotic melodies and harmonies, as can be heard in different types of gamelan. It's possible to devide the fifth in three, like in the Balinese scale with 6/5 seconds. These sounds fit well with the pelog and slendro tunings of the metallophones and gongs which are present in the gamelan music. A melting pot of exotic sounds during this remarkable concert will be the result. Tickets can be reserved at the Muziekgebouw.

After the renovation of the Fokker-organ the instrument will make it's return into the music world by a surprising inaugural concert. There will be a cross section of the concerts of next season, including highlights of the repertoire of the Fokker-organ played by Joop van Goozen, improvisations by Guus Janssen, old music played La Barca Leyden and a demonstration of the new possibilities of the Fokker-organ by composer Danny de Graan.

Concert - January 18 2009, 19.30 - Bethaniënklooster, Barndesteeg 6b, Amsterdam

In memoriam Horatiu Radulescu (1942-2008)
This concert is organised in memory of Horatiu Radulescu, who died last September at the age of 66. Five of the performers who were most closely associated with his music are coming to Amsterdam to play an evening of his works in Het Bethaniënklooster. The works range from Inner Time, from the early 1980s, through spectral masterpieces like Das Andere and Lux Animae, to his later sonatas for cello and for piano, including his last work, the Sixth Piano Sonata "Return to the source of light", premiered at the 2007 Transit Festival in Belgium.
